“BEER BUS” TRIPS (& “PUBLIC TRANSPORT GROUP TRIPS“)
About
This is how we get round some of the more elusive pubs in the patch. The Branch hires a minibus and driver, and we set off on a monthly adventure on a Friday night. These trips have now been run for more than 30 years and have proved to be a really fun way of doing the business of surveying.
Of course, there is a “work” element to all of this in that we do a beer score at each pub. These scores are a fundamental part of the Branch’s system for selecting pubs for the Good Beer Guide. And nowadays a group from the travelers like to do a survey of the pub for updating the WhatPub entry. OK, it may all sound demanding, but in truth it is not, and we actually manage to fit in some enjoyment! After all, where else could one get a hand crafted tour of West Shropshire pubs at such modest cost? Certainly there is a select group of members who would agree with the concept, as they’ve been doing these trips for all of those 30 odd years!
A typical trip would cover 6-8 pubs, though some end up in a town, which gives passengers the opportunity to visit more independently if they so wish.
So if you fancy having some fun going round some of West Shropshire’s best pubs, and at the same time making a significant contribution to CAMRA, we would be delighted to have you ride the bus with us. You can use the Contact form to do this

“PUBLIC TRANSPORT GROUP (PTG)” TRIPS
About
Public transport, being what it is in Shropshire, means travel during daytime to the pubs that are open for lunchtime and afternoon sessions. A great way to get to know our fantastic county in the company of those who have been doing it for years!
All on Tuesdays (usually the 3rd Tuesday of the month)
For more information about the Tuesday PTG Trips please contact Pete Duckers on 01743 359903 or just turn up at the time normally indicated in What’s Brewing or listed on our Branch Diary & Events page. (The meeting point is usually the relevant stop at Shrewsbury Bus Station or the lobby of Shrewsbury Railway Station, probably best to make contact in advance if you plan to join the trip at another point)
Over the course of the year, the following Branch areas tend to get covered (some of the bigger towns are visited more than once):
Baschurch
Bishop’s Castle
Church Stretton
Dorrington
Ellesmere
Great Ryton
Hindford
Little Stretton
Ludlow
Oswestry
Ruyton-XI-Towns
Tilley
Wem
Whitchurch
Whittington
Wistanstow
In addition, a couple of trips each year normally venture outside the Branch area, to places such as Shifnal, Chester, Birmingham, Stockport and even Liverpool.

Thanks to all the publicans and their customers who made us so welcome on our trip out on 24 April, and, of course, Caradoc Coaches for taking us round. We managed to visit the Horseshoes at Uckington, the Hare and Hounds at Withington, the Haughmond at Upton Magna, the Corbet Arms at Uffington, the Fox and Hounds at Shawbury and the Stanton Arms at Stanton-upon-Hine Heath. You can find details of the pubs at http://www.WhatPub.com
